What Is a Hex Bolt?

A hex bolt (hexagon-head bolt) is a removable threaded fastener consisting of an external six-sided head and a threaded shank, installed into a pre-tapped hole or paired with a nut. Hex bolts come in fully threaded and partially threaded versions, and the hexagonal head lets a wrench or socket apply torque from multiple angles.
